The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is a private, autonomous organisation that is the national governing body for cricket in India.
One of the BCCI’s responsibilities is the selection of the national women's cricket team.
This is decided based on past performance (in domestic competitions and/or in the Indian Women's Premier League*) and other general considerations of merit (fitness, skill-specific requirements for tours/formats, long-term potential).
Last month, India made history by winning their first Women’s World Cup - a position historically dominated by England, Australia and New Zealand.
*The WPL was created in 2023, so is a recent addition to the decision-making calculus.
